Archives As Muse: Orphan Films
November 4, 2018 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm
How can we reframe a story? ArtHyve’s Archives As Muse is back for another year! This year, ArtHyve commissioned five selected artists to work with Archived Orphan Films and/or home movies to create an interesting and new work. Archives as Muse seeks to demystify archives while giving artists the chance to mine our collective stories for inspiration. This year’s featured artists will be Serena Chopra and Kacey Ferlic, Lares Feliciano, Esther Hernandez, and Eileen Roscina Richardson. The event will feature a keynote from Snowden Becker who helped launch the annual international Home Movie Day. Over a decade later, Home Movie Day is perhaps the world’s largest ongoing film preservation, education, and outreach event. Home Movie Day helped thousands of individuals and families identify, assess, care for — and most importantly, see — their films as family heirlooms and as an important part of a shared cultural and historical record. ArtHyve aligns Denver’s creative communities in the act of art making, social justice, and community archiving. We believe in the radical act of preserving our collective histories for ourselves. Stay afterwards for a Dance Party – because this is ArtHyve and we always bring dance to the revolution.
